Unemployment Equality

Interesting article in this week’s issue of Barron’s on unemployment figures. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, unemployed male workers and unemployed female workers both have the same duration of unemployment. In other words, women used to find work quicker but now that women and men have equality in the workforce, both experience the same patterns of employment and unemployment. Women have caught up to men -and both lose jobs and find positions at the same pace.
Hopefully soon we won’t be commenting on differences in employment for men vs women and just speak about jobs in general as we move toward reversing the unemployment trends.
