Making A Difference Every Day
I often hear from candidates who no longer feel excited about advertising & media. They want to do something that makes a difference and I understand how important it is to feel that the work we do matters.
In today’s New York Times (4/14/2011), the advertising column illustrates the impact of our industry on our economy. Did you know that in the U.S. over 630,783 people work in advertising? And ad spending is over 278.9 billion dollars! The cumulative effect of this is even more far-reaching – all of us in in the industry “contribute to 19.1 million jobs.” This is important especially in light of the unemployment figures over the last few years.
The next time I have a bad day and think the work I do doesn’t matter, I might want to remember that advertising dollars equal over 5 trillion in activity and spending.
