July 2013 Employment Picture
Overall July 2013 was a mixed month for the employment picture. 162,000 Jobs were created during the month and the unemployment rate now stands @ 7.4%.
There are still over 11.5 million unemployed workers in the U.S. And many of the jobs created were in lower paying sectors including retail – 47,000 jobs created. Employment in the professional services and business services category is +36,000; there has been a steady increase in this area almost every month.
The unemployment rate for college grads remains low @ 3.8% down from 4.1% July 2012. Many of our candidates with degrees are getting multiple offers and we are even seeing entry level candidates with internships in media/advertising receive offers.
we continue to see a strong demand for media candidates with a digital background and have openings across the country.
NYC continues to have the most jobs but Chicago/Boston/LA are also very active.
