Ads on Job Boards Down Slightly …

The economy is slowing down in some areas and job boards are indicating a slight decrease month-to-month in advertised openings. However there is still some good news because year-to-year openings are up 12.1% from July 2010 to July 2011.
Along with a decrease in advertised openings, consumer spending also fell in June 2011. There is a strong correlation between confidence and spending. When we feel uneasy about our future or pesssimistic about long-term employment, we do not go shopping!
However just to show that there is a mixed message in all of the data, an article on Bloomberg.com today (8/2/2011) reported that employees are “quitting jobs at the highest level in 3 years.” And “one in three workers is considering changing jobs.”
Once the debt issues are settled, we anticipate a push for jobs and a new focus on turning around the unemployment numbers.
